Passage: Lüderitz – Hottentot Bay – Walvis Bay

Lüderitz has treated us very well, but after a week, we feel the urge to travel north and hopefully find some warmer weather. We have certainly had a great time, with lovely dinners at Barrel’s, The Portuguese Fisherman and at the Yacht Club. And, Andy, who manages some of the private moorings in the bay, took great care of us in terms of checking on our boat as we went inlands for a couple of days.

We had a quiet weather window and headed out of Lüderitz in nearly no wind, which was good, as we were planning to stay the first night at anchor in Hottentot Bay. It is a safe harbour in the middle of the desert, and a stop we have been looking forward to for a while.

We entered the bay well in time before nightfall, and had time to climb the great sand dunes.

This coast is part of the infamous Skeleton Coast, and we definitely did see our share of why it is named so.

During the next stretch, from Hottentot Bay to Walvis Bay, we caught the first fishes on Noxoma! We passed through a steam and managed to catch two Yellowtail kingfish each app. 7 kgs each, and they bit on each lure simultaneously! We had a lovely fresh dinner and have filled up the freezer as well. Yum!

We arrived early in the morning at Walvis Bay, and plan to stay for about a week before going to St. Helena.
