We were extremely excited about visiting the boat builder during our fourth day in Cape Town. We visited their big boat facility, which is all dedicated to the Power Cat 53 and the Sail Cat 50.
The key question we had was – have you started building our boat yet? We have build number 136, and as we entered the shipyard and met with the manager for a private tour, he was quick to share that….. they had just started building number 134…
We did get a little bit disappointed, we have to admit. However, we were so excited just to be there, so we figured it was the process in and of itself we really were curious about.
We got a really nice 1.5 hour tour of the yard, and were so impressed with the way Robertson and Caine operates. Not many catamaran manufacturers start a new boat build every week! Robertson and Caine is in fact the biggest catamaran builder in the southern hemisphere and the third largest catamaran builder worldwide. So, we are definitely in good hands.
The tour of the shipyard is something we would recommend to everyone, if you get a chance. We learned so much about our boat, and you never know when it is put to good use.
Unfortunately we were not allowed to take pictures onsite, so all we have is from the reception. Thank you to Marcel from Leopard Catamarans for organizing the tour, and to the factory manager for giving us a tour.
You can read more about the factory and see pictures from Robertson and Caine’s official website.
We got to visit a sister ship docked in the VAT Marina area, though!
